Please join us for the Society for the History and Philosophy of Medicine’s next session, where Dr. Laura Hirshbein will give her talk “ECT in Historical Perspective: From Desperate Measures to Interventional Psychiatry (Without Changing the Procedure).” Dr. Hirshbein is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School, where she specializes in inpatient psychiatry and ECT, and a historian of medicine with a research focus on the history of psychiatry, health policy, and diagnosis. She received her MD from the University of Michigan Medical School and her PhD in history from Johns Hopkins University.
